Great list, but I have to disagree with your ending criticism of "The Thing". I think the fact that there are no wildly identifying character traits in the characters is a brilliant stroke by the filmmakers. The whole conceit of the film is a group of generally work-a-day guys who become trapped in a nightmarish situation. They all seem interchangeable, which makes the fact that one or most or any of them could be a bloodthirsty alien all the more powerful. It's a relief, when these days you always seem to need a shining knight of a good guy, some loud wise-cracking comic relief sidekick, ect. ect. ect.
